Frequently Asked Questions
What happens when you see a Process Therapist?
Process Counselling provides fast and easy ways to deal with whatever issues you wish to talk about and problems that may be happening in your life. Therapy sessions usually last for 1 hour.
1 - 3 sessions may be enough for you to learn easy, effective skills and strategies to put into action and make changes that will work better for you in your everyday life.
You may decide that you would like more than 3 sessions to identify past patterns of behavior, clarify your thinking, work through difficult past hurts and anger and make a plan of action for your future. You may also be interested in taking more time and exploring deeper.
Psychological therapies generally fall into three categories. These are behavioural therapies, which focus on cognitive therapy, thinking and behaviours, psychoanalytical and psychodynamic therapies, which focus on the unconscious relationship patterns that evolved from childhood, and humanistic therapies, which focus on looking at the 'here and now'. See these links for more information about Process Psychology.
How can talking with someone who is trained and experienced help you?
Counselling helps you take time out from your situation and see it from a fresh perspective. It allows you to identify recurring problematic patterns and change them so they don't keep repeating or improve your communication skills or access information when dealing with divorce or family issues or mental health problems etc. Working with a counsellor gives you, or you and your partner, a chance to think about what you can do to change your situation for the better. It can also give you a chance to explore complex or difficult issues in a safe and confidential environment.
Someone who is 'outside' of your normal life and does not have 'an agenda' for you, who is qualified and experienced, can 'follow your process' and help you to learn to trust yourself more and find your own answers which will work better for you.
